St. Patrick's Day is celebrated annually on March 17, the anniversary of the death of Saint Patrick in the fifth century. Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and Bishop in Ireland. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years.
Today, known for parades, shamrocks and all things Irish, people of all backgrounds celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Although North America is home to the largest of celebrations, especially throughout the United States, Canada and Australia, St. Patrick’s Day is also celebrated in locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore and even Russia.
The day also commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. That being said, the religious restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol were lifted for the day, which has encouraged and propagated the holiday's tradition of alcohol consumption.…
